Acer Laptops – Brand Review

The Acer laptop brand is one in a long line of electronic devices that are designed and marketed by the Taiwanese multinational corporation Acer inc. They are widely acclaimed for creating some of the most budget-friendly laptops in the market.

As the digital market space is becoming increasingly crowded with laptops consistently being churned off the production line, laptop makers are continually in a scramble to deliver the tiebreaker or the ultimate laptop.

Acer attempts to steal in a march on its competition by rolling out a ton of laptops that catch the eye for their attractive price tags. It is a strategy that is executed to varying degrees of success, everyone loves the bargain buys, and Acer presents us with the perfect opportunity.

But the relatively attractive pricing is not the only string in their bow, Acers’ laptops are incredibly lean and light, their products are shipped in a healthy choice of configurations that match the hardware and software requirements of almost everyone. And Its vast array of Clamshell laptops, 2-in-1, hybrids, Chromebooks, and notebooks are equipped with the most powerful processors on offer. There is enough firepower to take on the most demanding tasks and to play the most recent games, albeit at varying degrees of speed and comfort.

Design

From convertibles to clamshells, gaming laptops to workstations, Acer pulls all the stops to deliver products that pack in the punches without tipping off the scales.

There is the plasticky chassis of the Chromebooks and the metal alloys of Its aspire series, as well as the ceramic-esque surface of the ConceptD 7, all of which are milled and crafted to rip off the heft. Admittedly, you can’t always get the “Lithe and light” laptop, a bit of extra bulk is inevitable for fitting in hardware like powerful processors and batteries. So Acers’ laptop lineup also features the unwieldy, the bulky, and the flat-out beefy, the Acer predator 21x comes to mind, weighing a massive 8.5kg.

For Ultraportables, Acer puts its best foot forward with the Swift 7, weighing just 2 pounds and thinning down to 0.39-inches, sleek comes to mind when you look at this laptop. Acer even joins forces with Porsche to build the Acer book RS, you will like the svelte and the posh of the all-metal chassis and its carbon fiber finish. It will set you back by $1400, but it is a wonder on chips.

Pricing

The generous pricing of their laptops is a major selling point and perhaps its biggest draw, Acers’ laptops will mostly not leave a hole in your pockets, whether you go for the low-end or premium end laptops. Everybody loves a budget laptop, from the college student on a shoestring to the CEO with the purse strings, and Acer is the one-stop shop for everything budget-friendly.

Acer has a laptop for everyone, irrespective of your position on the economic ladder. From the Chromebooks and Aspire series to even the predators, the story is the same, the prices are very attractive and competitive when compared pound-for-pound with laptops from other brands. Look no further than the Acer Swift 3, for $650, you get a laptop equipped with an 8 core CPU and AMD Radeon integrated graphics. This laptop will blitz through a ton of demanding applications and games without breaking a sweat, making it look more of a bargain purchase.

Durability And Reliability

Acer does not compromise with quality standards in the design of its laptops, and that is despite the incredible prices on offer for most of the time. They enlist the help of top-drawer hardware components that can be easily serviced and replaced, whenever they run their course. These components are intentionally designed to be stand-alone and non-soldered to the circuit board, an extra advantage as it means that vital system parts under the hood can be easily detached in case of malfunction and then upgraded.

As new cutting-edge technologies begin to emerge every day in the world of computing, Acer does its best to stay up to date and keep up with the Joneses. Acer spares no expenses in the research and development of innovations that will improve the user experience. From chassis design and cooling technology to audio quality and battery power, there is a lot of work done behind the scenes.

Target Market

Acer manufactures a slew of laptops to meet the needs of every single person, but it has seemingly carved a niche for itself in a couple of market segments. While its business-oriented and household laptops are a constant fixture as a result of their competitive prices, Acer tests the waters with a series of gaming laptops that have been received with wide acclaim.

Acer Aspire – Budget to entry-level Personal-use  laptops intended for casual household and education-oriented use

Acer TravelMate – business-oriented laptops

Notable Models

Acer Aspire 5

This 15.6″ Full HD and IPS panel laptop is equipped with the latest 10th Generation Intel Core i5 processor and the Intel UHD Graphics. It is best suited for everyday productivity, content creation, and the occasional middle-end gaming, while the battery is not so great, the display is impressive and the audio quality is top-tier.

Acer Nitro 5

With the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU and Intel Core i5-9300H CPU on processor duties, this is a decent gaming laptop capable of playing a bunch of AAA games at a canter. Notable highlights include its impressive staying power and attractive pricing, while the incessant bloatware and racket of the fans are a major turnoff.

Acer Predator Triton 300 SE

The powerful Intel Core i7-11375H processor joins forces with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GPU to produce “the” gaming laptop. Backed by decent battery life and a refresh rate of 144Hz display, this laptop will run the most recent and high-end titles at comfortable framerates.

Acer conceptD 7

Specially Crafted and designed with the creative professionals in mind, this laptop employs the services of a 4K IPS panel and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 to create visually striking graphics and a flicker-free display that is vivid, and vibrant as well. It brings the studio and theater to your bedroom, and its 9th-generation Intel Core i7 CPU is backed by storage of 1TB, now that is pretty impressive.

Acer Travelmate P6

This laptop is packed to the rafters with all the niceties of a mobile workstation. Optional eSIM-enabled 4G LTE connectivity technology for a speedy and smooth connection, a powerful 4-mic array for seamless video conferencing, MIL-STD-810G, and 810F compliance for on the go use, the list is endless. It is also equipped with the powerful 10th Gen Intel Core i7 processor as well as the NVIDIA GeForce MX250 graphics, its battery is the clincher.

Battery Life

Acer laptops are not exactly known for their impressive battery life, but that is not to say that their laptops have a battery power handicap. They mostly feed off lithium-ion battery cells as a vast majority of other modern laptops do, and can sometimes come with a fast-charging feature as can be found in the conceptD 7.

Most Acer laptops post runtime figures that are above average, although there are some notable exceptions. For example, the TravelMate P2 and P6 will last all day long, which is even better than the Dell Latitude 9410 2-in-1 with its runtime of about 17hours.

On the downside, they do give way under the pressure of sustained processor-intensive workload quite easily but will cope fairly well under lightweight work. Acer performs surprisingly well with its Swift series, as batteries require more headroom to pack in extra punches of watt-hours, you would be forgiven for assuming that this line of ultraportables is poor on battery power. But that is not the case here, the swift 3 and swift 7 will last for around 11hours and 10hours respectively.

Acers’ gaming laptops perform well on benchmarks too, the Predator Triton 300 SE spent 6 hours and 41 minutes before depletion, decent figures for a gaming laptop, albeit slightly behind the TUF Dash F15 at 6:53, but still yards behind the Zephyrus G14 that posts an incredible runtime of 11:32.

Drawbacks

The affordable prices of most Acer laptops can just as quickly go from a selling point to a major sticking point. On one side of the argument, the affordable prices are not a get out of jail free card that allows them to roll out laptops with inferior storage and memory, unimpressive base configuration processors, and the occasional battery fiasco. On the flip side, there is a helpless resignation in knowing that you have gotten value for your money, even if the value is not exactly the desired one.

Other low points include the ludicrous amount of bloatware on the spin series, or the inadequate base storage capacity of the nitro series.

Processor Performance

Acers laptops have come a long way from the intel atom processors of its formative years to even faster and more sophisticated processors based on the 10th and 11th generation core i5, i7, i9 CPU, as well as the latest AMD Ryzen processors. The swift 3 runs on the 11th gen core i5 and i7 processors, while the Aspire 5 can come in the AMD ryzen 5 or ryzen 7 processors. For graphic processors, Acer looks to have adopted the Nvidia Geforce GPU for most of its laptops, although the AMD Radeon processors make appearances on some recent offerings.

These laptops are equipped with a generous amount of cores and threads that set the template for a truly powerful performance. The base and peak speeds are impressive, with the capacity to execute multi-threaded requests at steady clock rates with the occasional bursts of overclocking.

These processors join forces during operation, translating to laptops that have enough firepower to take on the most demanding and intensive tasks and games without skipping a beat.

It is what makes the predator helios play the latest high-end games like the witcher 3, and the shadow of the tomb raider glitch-free. It is also the brawns and brains behind the impeccable 3D rendering and multimedia encoding capacity of the ConceptD 7.

In A Nutshell

The Acer laptop brand plays in the big league. While the table-toppers include household names like Apple, Dell, and HP, the Acer brand is hot on their chase with new rollouts that offer exciting innovations and technologies to go with unbeatable prices.

Their gaming laptops are spectacular and their workstations are very productive, but there is a load of other laptops in between that just seem to roll by, unheralded and underutilized.

The support system is impressive. Most people with firsthand experience will agree that Acer employs a lot of capable hands that work behind the scenes to keep your device running smoothly. There is a one-year warranty that comes with most of their laptop purchases, covering a wide range of services, checks, and updates.

However, some hardware components are begging for upgrading, the batteries and speakers will need more oomph as well, but these problems are not widespread.

Overall, Acers’ laptops are the ultimate bargain and you can take that to the bank.
